This is not really a sequel, but a continuation of the story in Lord of the Plains, which had no ending. The story of Riley and her Uncle Aerlid continues, but it still isn't until close to the end of the book that the reader learns the secret that Riley doesn't know about herself, and why some of her dumbest actions are so clever, but their characters are still not complete until nearly the end of the book. This one has more action and an explanation to the mysteries raised in Lord of the Plains. I do not really like the way this was handled. Instead of being a really good read, I kept asking, "what the hell is that idiot girl up to now?" This seems to be a lazy way to build a character. I read the second book because I don't like to leave a story unfinished.Product details

Very interesting. Several story lines combined very well. It might have been a bit better if aerlids back story had been expanded on.
Was disappointed in this continuation. Not nearly as interesting as the first
Part two was very well written. It concludes the story very well for me. By the end of this book I felt like the characters were a part of my family.
A touching love story in the middle of a classic fantasy war. I hope the author hasn't decided to end it here. I want to follow the thread and people of this world. Thank you MS Chapman!
Great read, racial tensions dealt with on another world of humans and other races.couldn't put it down! Sufi / fantasy blend
I'm so glad this second book came out so quickly as the end of the first book was a shock, and there are more shocks to come in this book. It's one of those books that you can't really be sure of the ending until you get there. I just loved some of the characters, karesh is a favourite and I love the way the characters are consistent, the story keeps you riveted and at the end you feel that sadness the the story is over and you have to say goodbye to them. Can't say more as don't want to spoil the story for anyone.
A fast read and good overall story. I felt compelled to finish from the first one, which this book does finish the cliffhanger from the first. Really didn't enjoy the development of Aerlid or of some of the other characters. I felt little connection with most of these characters namely our main heroine. The total destruction from book one and then book two left me feeling incomplete. This is not a series that I want to read more books in, which is how I normally prefer my sci-fi.
